To build awareness on the possibilities and benefits the development and deployment of AI in healthcare offers COCIR is proud to share and centralize AI use cases as of 2020 that have been sourced from our membership.
This list of use cases will be periodically updated and more will be published on regular basis to reflect the latest innovations and developments. So far 16 AI use cases have been collected in total and can be consulted via following link.
AI in Healthcare
Artificial Intelligence (AI) in healthcare is already a reality. Healthcare providers have embedded the technology into their workflows and the decision-making process.
The introduction of AI in healthcare has brought improvements for patients, providers, payers and other healthcare stakeholders as well as society at large.
In order to realise the full benefits of AI in healthcare COCIR believes further work is needed on a range of priority topics.
Even though data is all around us, it can be challenging to get access to the highly qualitative data that is essential to build effective AI applications. To ensure a level playing field and spur innovation, it is vital that access to high quality data is ensured in a fair, transparent and non-discriminatory way.
It is important to have a robust and regulatory framework that provides certainty and safety as new technologies are being developed and introduced into the market. Standards and definitions should be endorsed on a European level to ensure interoperability and avoid fragmentation.
Trust will play a crucial role in the further uptake of AI in daily healthcare practice. This will require a transparent ethical framework that favors a human-centric approach.
In the end, more AI applications should find their way into daily healthcare practice. To make these implementations successful, integration should be carefully considered.
COCIR is committed to engage in a broad dialogue with all relevant stakeholders (healthcare providers and professionals, patients, payers, industry, policy makers and others) to overcome any barriers that withhold further adoption of AI in healthcare.
