SUSTAINABILITY AT COCIR
At COCIR , we are dedicated to driving sustainability in the medical devices sector. We actively promote best practices among our members, fostering innovation and collaboration to reduce the environmental impact of healthcare. Together, we strive to support the transition to sustainable healthcare systems by advancing initiatives aimed at decarbonizing healthcare, optimizing resource use, and integrating circular economy principles. Our collective efforts aim to ensure a healthier planet for future generations while delivering safe, high-quality care.
Proactive sustainability
At COCIR, we launched in 2010 a Self-Regulatory Initiative (SRI), with the aim of assessing the environmental impacts of medical imaging devices and work together as a sector to improve the efficiency of our devices. From 2010 to 2019 we reported our findings and successes yearly, publishing studies and methodologies that helped companies, purchasers and user to reduce their environmental footprint.
Fostering Circular Economy for better healthcare
At COCIR, we are dedicated to advancing a circular economy in the medical devices sector. Through the reuse and refurbishment of parts and equipment, we aim to minimize waste, conserve raw materials, and reduce energy consumption. Circular economy practices are a cornerstone of sustainability, enabling the healthcare sector to deliver high-quality care while preserving vital resources for future generations. Together, we are committed to driving innovation and collaboration to make healthcare more resilient and environmentally responsible.
Promoting sustainable solutions
At COCIR, we are committed to advancing green public procurement as a vital tool for fostering sustainability in healthcare. As a founding member of MEPA, we encourage the adoption of environmentally responsible criteria in purchasing decisions, we aim to drive innovation and reduce the ecological footprint of medical devices. We actively collaborate with stakeholders, purchasing organizations, and NGOs to develop practical solutions and align efforts toward a more sustainable healthcare system. Together, we can create a future where procurement practices prioritize both health outcomes and environmental stewardship.
