COCIR Radiotherapy Age Profile & Density – 2025 Edition

In 2018, a COCIR initiative proposed specific recommendations – the ‘Golden Rules’ – designed to help evaluate of the radiotherapy installed base and assist with procurement planning.

The latest COCIR data , now presented in infographic format, analyses the density and age profile of radiotherapy equipment in selected countries against the ‘Golden Rules’.

The main findings point out the alarmingly high percentage of medical imaging equipment in Europe that is more than 10 years old, and the broad disparities in equipment density between European countries.

COCIR adopted a target goal of 7 radiation therapy systems (linacs) per million population. This target was based on both GLOBOCAN, the Global Cancer Observatory, and the IAEA published recommendations.

However, most European countries still do not meet this objective.
