ECR 2015: COCIR Participates in EuroSafe Call For Action and Raises Alarming Trend Of Ageing Imaging Equipment

VIENNA – 6 March 2015 – Today, at the European Congress of Radiation (ECR) 2015, COCIR participated in the EuroSafe Call for Action. A European Society of Radiology (ESR) initiative, ‘EuroSafe 2 – EuroSafe imaging call for action’ was the second EuroSafe session at ECR 2015. This campaign, now supported by a concrete 12-point action plan, aims to protect patient and healthcare worker safety and the session was an opportunity to bring multiple stakeholders together.
COCIR is involved in the EuroSafe Steering Committee and Secretary General Nicole Denjoy participated in today’s panel discussion. She said, “Our industry is deploying highly innovative technologies which directly contribute to patient safety. It is crucial that we continue to work closely and together with healthcare professionals to constantly optimise patients’ exposure to radiation dose. ” She added, “EuroSafe is an excellent initiative launched by ESR which will facilitate this crucial collaboration between all relevant stakeholders, including regulators.” For the second time, COCIR made a poster for the EuroSafe poster exhibition, this year focusing on ageing imaging equipment. COCIR is also participating in a session called "Harmonised approach for imaging in Europe: myth or reality?" chaired by ESR 1st Vice-President Luis Donoso. Discussions will focus on inequalities, imaging equipment, education and training and IT access.
Nicole Denjoy, COCIR Secretary General, will highlight: “It is crucial for EU institutions to address the differences in healthcare quality between member states. If this is not addressed, European healthcare systems will continue to struggle to meet the challenges generated by an ageing population and workforce”. Nicole will add, “COCIR is ready to join forces with ESR and other stakeholders to help member states move towards more efficient healthcare systems which ensure patient safety and cost efficiency for public health.”
