COCIR Strengthens Its Industry Code of Conduct

Building on the success of its pan-European Code of Conduct, which sets the standard for companies in their interactions with healthcare professionals including their agents, customers and distributors, COCIR is publishing today an updated and expanded Questions & Answers (Q&A) document on three important areas of its Code of Conduct: Independent Third Parties, Research and Charitable Donations.

The updates are part of an ongoing process to expand the COCIR Code of Conduct both in scope and geography.  In addition to the English version, both the Q&A and the COCIR Code of Conduct will become available soon in five additional languages - Dutch, French, German, Italian and Spanish.

Recent legal developments to counter bribery and corruption such as the UK Bribery Act and strict transparency requirements in various ‘Sunshine Acts’ governing financial activities between medical device suppliers and healthcare professionals are likely to have profound implications for the healthcare industry globally.  The COCIR Code of Conduct helps companies prepare and respond to these regulatory challenges.

Nicole Denjoy, COCIR Secretary General said “Updating the COCIR Code of Conduct Q&A will provide further practical support to our members to ensure a high level of compliance with the COCIR Code of Conduct and help companies stay ahead of regulatory compliance trends.”
