BRUSSELS – 19 April 2012 – COCIR, the European trade association for the medical technology industry, today announces the appointment of Kevin Haydon, Executive Vice President – Global Sales and Service International for Philips Healthcare, as its new President, effective immediately.  Kevin Haydon was elected at the COCIR General Assembly today and succeeds Heinrich von Wulfen, Senior Vice President Healthcare Sector, Global Sector Sales for Siemens AG, whose term comes to a close.

Having been a Board member and on the COCIR Economic Affairs Committee since 2004, Kevin Haydon has been involved with COCIR for many years and brings his vast experience in the sector to this position, along with a deep understanding of the issues affecting the medical technology industry.  Kevin Haydon has previously been an industry representative on the British Institute of Radiology Council and Chairman of the Association of X-Ray Equipment Manufacturers.

COCIR Secretary General Nicole Denjoy thanked Heinrich von Wulfen for his service and commitment to COCIR and its membership.  “Heinrich has been a dedicated President, driving the business acumen of COCIR and becoming ever more dedicated as his outstanding leadership helped our business association gain much visibility among stakeholders and key policymakers.”  Looking forward to the new Presidency, she emphasised that “Since COCIR was established, it has become an industry leader in the medical technology sector.  Kevin Haydon has been with us throughout these changes.  We anticipate that under his leadership, COCIR will continue to demonstrate the benefits of highly innovative technology, particularly in terms of improved safety, quality and better access to healthcare, ensuring the delivery of sustainable and cost-efficient integrated care solutions.”

Kevin Haydon commented “I am honoured to have been appointed as the new COCIR President.  With my industry experience, I look forward to accelerating the uptake of medical technology innovation for the sustainability of healthcare systems across Europe, since we currently have an ageing population, a rise of chronic diseases, scarce healthcare workforce and an uncertain economic outlook.”
