Annabel Seebohm announced as new COCIR Secretary General

Brussels – Monday 28 March 2022

At an extraordinary virtual COCIR General Assembly on 1 March, Annabel Seebohm has been appointed as the new Secretary General of COCIR. Her appointment, which follows the sad passing of the previous Secretary General Nicole Denjoy in 2021, was unanimously approved by the membership. She will take up her position on 1 June.

Ms Seebohm, who joins COCIR from the Standing Committee of European Doctors (CPME), where she held the position of Secretary General, says, “I am delighted to have the opportunity to work within such a dynamic sector, particularly at a time where the essential contribution of our members’ technologies - in diagnostic imaging, radiotherapy and digital health - is increasingly central to care and care delivery. With health systems under growing pressure, we are in a position to take the lead in increasing the efficiency of health delivery and making healthcare systems more green, digital, and resilient. I look forward to building on the reputation of the sector and working with health policymakers to help ensure patients, healthcare professionals, hospitals, payers, and healthcare systems are able to realise the benefits of our sector to the maximum extent.”

COCIR President Bernt Bieber says, “Today, it is clearer than ever that healthcare systems need modern medical equipment to empower healthcare professionals in providing the best possible care for patients. Indeed, the COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the value of digital technologies and data in health. Our sector will continue making a critical contribution across all care areas, from oncology to cardiovascular health, and help address the significant backlog in diagnosis and treatments linked to the COVID-19 pandemic. We are confident that Annabel brings the ideal experience to help COCIR play a vital role in ensuring the uptake of these technologies is optimised. We look forward to working with her.”

Bernt Bieber added that “We must also thank Annika Eberstein, who has been such an effective interim COCIR Secretary General since taking over last July; she has done a fantastic job in steering the organisation through a challenging environment while we identified the ideal appointment.”

Among the first priorities Annabel Seebohm will address in her new role are COCIR’s effective contribution to the recovery from COVID-19, the implementation of Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan, and the set-up of the European Health Data Space, as well as the successful deployment of the Innovative Health Initiative.
