BRUSSELS – 21 May 2014 – COCIR welcomes Varian Medical Systems Inc. as its latest corporate member. Varian is a global manufacturer of medical devices and software for treating cancer and other medical conditions with radiotherapy, radiosurgery, proton therapy, and brachytherapy. In addition, Varian supplies X-ray tubes, digital image detectors and imaging processing software and workstations for X-ray imaging in medical, scientific, and industrial applications.
Varian also supplies industry-leading software systems for radiation therapy treatment planning, as well as informatics software for managing comprehensive cancer clinics, radiotherapy centres and medical oncology practices.
“Varian operates manufacturing facilities in Europe and China, as well as in the United States. Last year, we joined COCIR China. At this strategic moment in time we have also decided to join COCIR in Europe based on the value the organisation brings to members of the healthcare industry – particularly for a company like ours, which is expanding its operations and its customer base in Europe,” said Andrew Whitman, Vice-President, Government Affairs at Varian.
Nicole Denjoy, COCIR Secretary General, said, “COCIR is honoured and very happy to welcome Varian as its most recent corporate member in Europe. As a company that focuses energy on saving lives, Varian will add value to COCIR through its competence in X-ray imaging and in key therapies for fighting cancer. Varian’s membership and participation will increase the critical mass of true global competence that our organization represents in the areas of healthcare products and services”.
