On 24 June 2009 the European Commission adopted its Communication on Action Against Cancer: European Partnership (COM(2009)291/4). The work of the European Partnership on Action Against Cancer (EPAAC) has been taken forward through a Joint Action launched in February 2011 that will run until February 2014. The objective of EPAAC is to engage in a collaborative effort to tackle cancer more evenly and effectively across the EU and to have integrated cancer plans in all Member States by the end of the Partnership.
The National Institute of Public Health in Slovenia is leading the EPAAC Joint Action which encompasses 38 associated partners from across Europe and over 90 collaborating partners.
9 work packages that are each led by a Member State and comprise associated and collaborating partners were defined, including 5 stakeholders work packages identified on the following themes:
COCIR has been involved in the EPAAC since the earliest stage and became a collaborating partner in Work Package 7 on Healthcare and Work Package 8 on Research.
